B.P. Oil Safety rep's conference

At the beginning of September, LTW Managing Director, Mark Lambert was invited to attend the safety reps forum at B.P. Oil UK head office in Sunbury. The invite was due to some exceptional work LTW have been involved with in the Refinery at Coryton. LTW were approached by B.P. after a series of valve related injuries and near misses and asked to develop a tool that opened valves. The project's inception was in November 2003 and after 2 years of development the LTW Valve Chaser Tool was in production. It was used with great success in the Fuels Turnaround in February 2006 when it open a valve that usually took four men six hours in just 45 minutes from set up to break down! It has been used on various problematic valves since.

A second project was instigated between LTW and B.P. Oils after a maintenance technician suffered a serious injury while using a flogging spanner. LTW came up with lots of design ideas to rectify the problem, but ultimately a very simple design was adopted and patented by LTW's tooling partner, Gedore Tools. This item has been integrated into the stores at Coryton and allows the operator to use a flogging spanner "hands free" removing the danger from strike related injuries as well as the spanner falling when being used in an overhead environment.

Mark also had an opportunity to promote some other great new products like the new range of LH Safety composite safety boots that offer a lighter more comfortable safety solution. The forum is an opportunity for B.P. personnel to share tips and discoveries in the field of work safety. It was an honour for LTW to be invited and made for a very interesting day!
